ConCourt ruling déjà vu - UPND
THE UPND says the Constitutional Court ruling in favour of President Edgar Lungu’s eligibility to contest the 2021elections was expected.
UPND secretary general Stephen Katuka said his sentiments were based on the Lusaka Central and Munali court rulings which led to the retaining of Parliamentary seats by Margaret Mwanakatwe and Professor Nkandu Luo.
In an interview with the Daily Nation yesterday, Mr Katuka said he could not comment much as he had travelled out of town and that he was not present before the Constitution Court when it made its ruling.
He said that the precedence had been set following the ruling by the Constitutional Court on Ms Mwanakatwe and Professor Luo’s cases.
“We expected that so it’s not a surprise looking at the outcome in the Munali and Lusaka Central contention,” he said.
And UPND president Hakainde Hichilema said using collective skills the opposition party was examining the decision made by the court.
Mr Hichilema said the party would inform the nation in due course a detailed response.
