‘SALAULA’ GOES TO COURT
SOME public workers at the Kitwe Subordinate Court have turned the court premises into a trading ground for second hand clothes popularly known as ‘salaula.
The judiciary workers have continued to use the premises to sell second hand clothes despite people raising concerns over the matter.
While the Kitwe City Council had managed to relocate street vendors, the local authority had not taken action against illegal ‘salaula’ traders at the court premises in the Central Business District (CBD).
A Kitwe resident, Lydia Banda, said it was surprising that judiciary workers who were expected to lead by example in legal matters, were breaking the law with impunity.
“This is unfair because while street vendors and hawkers have been relocated, judiciary workers are breaking the law with impunity and no action is being taken. Street vending has been banned and those who want to sell should go to Chisokone market and not court premises,” Ms Banda said.
And Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu said he had also received reports over judiciary workers turning the court premises into a trading ground for second hand clothes.
Mr Mpundu said he would address the matter soon.
“I am told about it. Some people are selling second hand clothes within the court premises. I will address it,” Mr Mpundu said
