GOVT to re-construct Kampompi bridge
GOVERNMENT says it will re-construct the collapsed Kampompi bridge in Kitwe which was built by Mopani Copper Mines through its corporate social responsibility programme.
Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister Ronald Chitotela has disclosed that government would put up a new bridge under the Urban roads rehabilitation project which AVIC was undertaking.
Mr Chitotela has also directed that the Kampompi Bridge which connects Nkana East and Chipata compound in Kitwe be temporarily closed.
He said in the meantime the people of Nkana East and Chipata compound would be provided with an alternative route that goes through the Copperbelt University.
Mr Chitotela has also directed the Road Development Agency to grade the road and make it passable for vehicles.
He said contrary to media reports that the bridge was built by government, the collapsed Kampompi bridge was constructed by Mopani Copper Mines through its corporate social responsibility programme.
Meanwhile, RDA regional manager, Maimbo Himululi said works to upgrade the alternative route would start this week.
In the meantime the people of Nkana East and Chipata compound would be provided with an alternative route that goes through the Copperbelt University. -Mr Chitotela
