Chipata-Mch­inji rail­way boosts busi­ness

RESTORA­TION works on Chipata-Mch­inji rail­way line on the Zam­bian side will en­hance busi­ness, Zam­bia Rail­ways Lim­ited (ZRL) has said.

ZRL act­ing pub­lic re­la­tions of­fi­cer Sombe Ngonga how­ever said restora­tion works on the Chipata-Mch­inji rail­way line had been com­pleted.

She how­ever said works on CEAR Rail­ways in Malawi were still in progress and train move­ments be­tween Chipata and the Port of Na­cala would only be op­er­a­tionalised be­fore the end of this month.

Ms Ngonga said on De­cem­ber 26, last year the Chipata-Mch­inji Rail­way line was tem­po­rar­ily closed fol­low­ing a wash away due to heavy rains on both the

Zam­bian and Malaw­ian sides.

She said this in a state­ment is­sued yes­ter­day.

“Zam­bia Rail­ways ap­pre­ci­ates the pa­tience ex­hib­ited by busi­ness clients and mem­bers of the pub­lic dur­ing the pe­riod the restora­tion works were be­ing car­ried out on the Chipata -Mch­inji Rail­way line,” she said.

Ms Ngonga said ZR op­er­ates the Chipata-Mch­inji Rail­way line on a stretch of 24 kilo­me­tres from Chipata in the East­ern Prov­ince con­nect­ing with CEAR Rail­ways in Malawi and CDN Rail­ways of Mozam­bique up to the Port of Na­cala.
