Chipata-Mchinji railway boosts business
RESTORATION works on Chipata-Mchinji railway line on the Zambian side will enhance business, Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) has said.
ZRL acting public relations officer Sombe Ngonga however said restoration works on the Chipata-Mchinji railway line had been completed.
She however said works on CEAR Railways in Malawi were still in progress and train movements between Chipata and the Port of Nacala would only be operationalised before the end of this month.
Ms Ngonga said on December 26, last year the Chipata-Mchinji Railway line was temporarily closed following a wash away due to heavy rains on both the
Zambian and Malawian sides.
She said this in a statement issued yesterday.
“Zambia Railways appreciates the patience exhibited by business clients and members of the public during the period the restoration works were being carried out on the Chipata -Mchinji Railway line,” she said.
Ms Ngonga said ZR operates the Chipata-Mchinji Railway line on a stretch of 24 kilometres from Chipata in the Eastern Province connecting with CEAR Railways in Malawi and CDN Railways of Mozambique up to the Port of Nacala.
