Zambia to achieve SDG 4 by 2030 - Siatwambo
GRADE seven results are an indication that Zambia is on course in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4, by 2030, says Great North Road Academy education expert, Rozious Siatwambo.
Dr. Siatwambo has implored stakeholders to weigh in and help government achieve the target where all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education.
“We have these global targets that we need to achieve by 2030. In the education sector, the SDG target 4.1, requires us to, at least, by 2030, ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes. I see Zambia achieving this goal, especially looking at the performance and outcome of the 2018 grade 7 learners,” he said.
Dr. Siatwambo however, said the grade 9 results was a setback.
“The problematic grade nine exams and the subsequent suspension of all examinations last year, are a contributing factor to the poor performance by grade nines.
After exams were suspended, there was need for learners to undergo academic counseling; their brains or should I say minds were disturbed by the commotion emanating from alleged exams malpractice that necessitated a halt to sitting for exams.
Grade 9 exams are a blow in the face, especially looking at the global target of SDG 4, Dr. Siatwambo said.
Dr. Siatwambo, who is also Great North Road Academy Group of Schools’ director, expressed happiness in the way learners at his school performed saying, “Academic Performance Therapy we offered our learners at the height of exam suspension made it possible for our school to perform exceptionally well. We have most of our learners at grade 7 level, scoring 750, and a good number accruing above 800 marks; while at grade nine level, our learners have scored as high as 480 and above with not more than 4 scoring below the 300 mark,” he said.
