Improving living standards my vision - MP
MY vision for 2019 is to ensure that the living standards of the people in Siavonga Constituency are improved by them benefitting from the national cake, Siavonga UPND Member of Parliament Darius Mulunda has said.
Responding to concerns by a voter Martin Nthenga who wanted to know what development plans the MP had put in place for the constituency and to what extent he had pushed his plans in parliament, Mr Mulunda said his focus for now was to ensure the improvement of the people’s living standards in the area.
He said he focused on ensuring that the education, health and agriculture sectors were improved in his constituency so that the people there could start benefiting from the national cake.
Mr. Mulunda also said Siavonga needed an improved road network, provision of electricity to rural areas, development of aquaculture, and provision of mobile communication network in rural parts of the district.
''Apart from these challenges I mentioned earlier, I'm in touch with some government ministries to ensure the availability of safe and clean drinking water for our people and their animals, setting up a youth training centre and women empowerment programmes through cooperatives are also top on the agenda," he said.
He said Government was already aware of the main challenges the people in his constituency faced and he was hopeful that it would respond positively to ensure that poverty levels in the area were curbed.
''I have already taken most of the issues to parliament and they are on the order paper for the second session of last year and ministerial responses are available at the constituency office," Mr Mulunda said.
On the stalled capital projects in the area, Mr Mulunda said government had provided additional funding for four out of the six projects being undertaken in the district, including the completion of the construction of a modern police station.
He also said government had indicated to him that Siavonga would have 13km of its township roads tarred this year.
''On township roads, three days before adjourning in December I had a chat with Hon Chitotela at parliament and he indicated that 13 km of township roads will be done this year," he said.
