They broke into the house of the police officer under protective unit, Sergeant Billy Simwamba 39, and killed the wife identified as Joy Mpandu Simwamba aged 31.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said the incident happened yesterday around 02:00 hours when the criminals armed with iron bars attacked Mr Simwamba at his residence in Makeni Villa.
Ms Katongo explained that Ms Nalwamba was hit at the back of the head with an iron bar and died after sustaining a deep cut.
The police officer along with his brother identified as Brian Silwamba were severely beaten and sustained multiple injuries. They are admitted to the University Teaching Hospital.
Ms Katongo said a manhunt for the criminals has been launched.
