RENOVATE DILAPIDATED MATERNITY WARD - MP

- By LINDA SOKO TEMBO

THE maternity ward in Kasoma Lwela Rural Health Centre in Luapula Province needs urgent renovation as it poses a danger to patients, Chembe Member of Parliament Sebastian Kopulande has said.

Dr Kopulande said the dilapidated roof, in particular, needed urgent attention as it could be blown off by heavy rains or winds anytime.

He said the maternity ward at the health centre located in Chembe also needed to be in a habitable condition for expectant mothers.

Speaking when he toured Kasoma Lwela rural health facility, Dr Kopulande said he was concerned over the state of the maternity ward and urged Chembe Town Council to have it renovated as soon as possible.

Dr Kopulande said the council should prioritise the issue and use approved Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocated last year to replace the dilapidated roof.

“This maternity ward was constructed over 10 years ago under Mansa Town Council using the CDF. It needs serious renovations especially the roof which poses a danger to human life as it can be blown off by heavy rains and winds at any time.

“Some of the money should be used to construct two VIP toilets at the facility that collapsed some weeks ago,” he said.

Dr Kopulande said government was working tirelessly to ensure that no life was lost due to poor health services by proving better facilities in the district.

He has also appealed to the health staff in the district to continue providing quality health services to the community.

Meanwhile, Kasoma Lwela Health Centre Senior Clinical Officer Kasonde Pongwe appealed to Dr Kopulande to help facilitate construction of a lid to cover the water well which is used as backup to the existing solar water system.

He thanked government through the MP for efforts to rehabilitate the dilapidated roof and construct the 2 VIP toilets.
