‘Gorilla’ gang emerges in Ndola
A GANG calling itself Gorillas, has emerged in Ndola terrorizsing pupils and teachers in schools, particularly during functions.
On Friday, the Gorillas stormed Kansenshi Combined Primary and Secondary School where they assaulted a teacher.
They are believed to be school leavers while others are school drop-outs, who have come together in a reign of terror.
The gang pounced on the teacher who raised alarm when he found them smoking in the school premises during athletics competition.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed that Paul Bwalya of Chibwe Crescent, a teacher at Kansenshi Combined Primary and Secondary School, was assaulted by two boys.
She named the suspects as Lukwesa Lukabo, 19 of Nsenga Close, Kansenshi and a 16-year-old boy of Petauke Road.
Ms Katanga said the two suspects are in police custody for assaulting a teacher.
“I can confirm that police have arrested two boys aged 16 and 19 for assaulting a teacher at Kansenshi combined Primary and Secondary school,” she said.
She could not however state whether the boys were in a gang and appealed to the public to report to police any gang activities.
But some pupils told the Daily Nation that it was a gang and that Mr Bwalya found some members smoking and when he accosted them, the gang leader punched him in the face. The teacher while bleeding put up a brave struggle and managed to grab one boy as others fled.
They narrated that the gang leader, popularly known as Gorilla, bolted from the scene as he did a somersault after stripping off his shirt to show off his tattoos, depicting a huge gorilla.
Pupils said other members of the gang sneaked out and ran away into the adjoining Ndibu Road.
