‘We’ve created conducive business environment’

- By NATION REPORTER

GOVERNMENT has created a conducive business environment and that is why we are working with our partners in improving the livelihood of our people, Kalumbila District Commissioner Robinson Kalota has clarified.

His clarification follows an outcry by Luanvundu Secondary School Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairperson Amos Samuneti that government had left everything in the improvement of infrastructure in the hands of Lumwana Mine.

This was during the handing over of 170 school desks to 5 schools in Kalumbila by Lumwana Mine through the Lumwana Community Trust (LCT).

Mr Kalota said government coulod work alone but with partners such as Lumwana mine because it had offered good investment opportunities.

“And that is why we are witnessing the handing over of desks by Lumwana Mine through the Community Trust because government has created a conducive business environment,” he said.

He said government remained committed to improving the quality of education across the country by creating an enabling environment to all stakeholders in the education sector.

He said the gesture by the mining company was in line with the Seventh National Development Plan and Sustainable Development Goals that sought to promote universal education for all.

“I’am therefore encouraging other stakeholders to come on board and emulate what the mining company is doing to support government efforts in the host communities, “he added.

And chief Mumena of the Kaonde speaking people in Kalumbila said education was the foundation to sustainable human development.

The traditional leader who is also chairperson for the Lumwana Community Trust said education was a core human right in the country as it critically contributed to the welfare, development and progression of its beneficial.

“To this effect, LCT greatly supports the efforts by the ministry of General Education whose mandate is to provide quality teaching, good learning environment which includes that facilities such as desks are available and enough for all learners in the classroom,” he said.

He stated that the trust remains committed to its long term vision of vibrant Lumwana community with quality and sustainable health, education, cultural and innovative wealth creation facilities and systems.

“This vision is expected to be achieved through promotion of relevant community driven development through collective community action and partnership for improved resource mobilization and allocation,” he said.
