300 books presented to selected Solwezi schools
KANSANSHI Mining
Plc has presented 300 supplementary reader’s books worth K30, 000 to be distributed to selected schools within its catchment area in Solwezi.
Speaking during the handover of the books yesterday, Kansanshi Foundation head of education, Onward Mandevu, said the books would be distributed to 37 schools within Solwezi district to help improve literacy levels among learners.
Dr Mandevu said most schools in the district were faced with a challenge of inadequate reader’s books resulting in a number of children not to be able to read and understand.
Speaking at the same function, Kansanshi Mining Plc public relations Manager Godfrey Msiska said the mining activities in Solwezi had impacted negatively in most schools in communities surrounding the mine hence the move to donate the text books to improve literacy in the schools.
Mr Msiska said the mine was hopeful that the books would be useful in schools to help improve literacy levels among learners in the district.
And Solwezi District Education Board Secretary Febby Kilele thanked the mining firm for the gesture saying Government alone could not manage to improve the standards of education in all schools across the country but needed the support of other stakeholders like the mines.
