- By OLIVER SAMBOKO

OUTSPOKEN Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has given the UPND-controlled Siavonga District Council a 30-day ultimatum to remove party cadres from its development committees or risk action from his office.

Mr Kanyama said that all individuals with political party affiliation serving on the ward development committees (WDC) in the district must immediately be removed failure to which his office will have no option but to ask the council management to vacate office.

‘’I’m giving the Siavonga district council up to the end of March, 2019 to put its house in order. All those individuals with partisan affiliation serving in the ward development committees must immediately be removed and stop attending WDC meetings, failure by the council to act will leave my office with no option but to ask management to vacate office,” Mr Kanyama said in a statement issued to the Daily

Nation in Siavonga yesterday. He said the council was aware of individuals holding political party positions and yet they had been allowed to continue being on non-partisan development committees.

Ward development committee guidelines were very clear on who should be members, he said.

‘’The ward development committee guidelines are clear on who is to be in those structures. Siavonga district council is, therefore, directed to do the right thing for the district. I have of late been receiving complaints from other political parties that the council is failing to act on political party cadres serving in ward development committees,” Mr Kanyama said.

Meanwhile, Siavonga district PF acting chairman Elijah Chitalu disclosed that the

district council removed all PF members from WDCs but failed to do the same to UPND members. Mr Chitalu said he was removed from Kariba Ward Development Committee as a representative of Mitchol Compound because he belonged to a political party (PF) but that senior UPND officials had continued to sit on the same committee.

‘’I was removed from the committee as a rep for Mitchol Compound but surprisingly they replaced me with a UPND leader, so there is need to correct this anomaly because it’s against the guidelines,” he said.
