Cops urged to work with bar owners on underage patronage
POLICE should link with bar owners to control underage patronage, says Kitwe District Commissioner Binwel Mpundu.
Mr Mpundu said teenagers in the city were exhibiting bad vices which should not be left unchecked adding that the community and police needed to work together to fight crime and bad vices.
Mr Mpundu was speaking during the annual celebration of Police Day under the theme “police and the community working together the theme he described as timely”.
"Alot of ill activities are being perpetrated by teenagers in the city, they are drinking like fish in broad day light and I urge you as the law enforcers to work with these managers of Shopping malls and bars to work together and curb the bad vices" he said.
He said time had come to heighten collaborations between police and community in order to face the challenges the district was going through.
Mr Mpundu said residents and the police need to work together and put an end to the many misconceptions that the public has on the operations of the police service.
He urged to police to be disciplined in their line of work and stop drinking on duty adding that they distinguish pleasure and work as they were the mirror to societ who should conduct themselves in a dignified manner,so that the public can build confidence in them.
"Do not work in a manner in which it takes away your dignity and stay away from partisan politics as it will invite transfers to remote places, Members of the public expect to be assured that they will receive protection against criminal activities" he stated.
At the same function Kitwe District Officer Commanding Sylus Musenge says Zambia Police service performance can improve greatly if members of the public give timely and constructive feedback .
Mr Musenge said the command has realised the need for transparency and accontabilty in their operations in order to maximise on the quality of public service .
He said through public feedback the police command are likely to achieve effective planning as well as timely response to the needs of the society. "Police day is purposely designed in an interactive manner which allows for exchange of information between Zambia police and the general public in our endeavour to wipe out crime across the country" he said.
