UNZA disburses over K23m for retirees’ benefits
ABOUT K23.4 million has been disbursed for retirees’ benefits this year to dismantle outstanding debt, University of Zambia (UNZA) Vice Chancellor Luke Mumba ha said.
Professor Mumba said the university was unveiling measures to contribute to achievement of financial sustainability by dismantling the debt for retirees.
He said the university was in the process of reviewing the existing programmes with the introduction of market-driven ones across the university.
“The university has disbursed about K23.4 million as retirement benefits as of February this year to dismantle the debt owed to retirees and has put in measures to achieve financial sustainability at the university,” he said.
He said the university would this year introduce three postgraduate business programmes and four undergraduate business degree programmes under the distance mode of learning.
Speaking during the 49th graduation ceremony yesterday Prof Mumba said the Soweto block that was burnt fours ago had been rehabilitated at a cost of K600, 000.
And Minister of Transport and Communication Dr Brian Mushimba called on Zambians to rise above the mere pursuit of education for curiosity but discover the true purpose of education.
He challenged the graduating students to live above board and strive for excellence in whatever job one was engaged in.
At the same function, Mr, Mushimba was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Environmental Engineering.
