Kitwe streetlights project on course
AVIC International is set to put up traffic lights on the eight notable junctions in the industrial area of Kitwe under the Zambia Town Roads Project (ZTRP),'' says Kitwe Mayor Christopher Kang'ombe.
Mr Kang'ombe said the project was different from the one which Kitwe City Council (KCC) had embarked upon.
Mr Kang'ombe said AVIC International will put up traffic lights on Chibuluma, Dr Aggrey junction, Chiwala -Jambo Drive junction, 21st -Central Street junction , and Independence-Freetown Road junction
Other junctions were traffic lights would be put up include Kanwe-Kazembe road , Langashe-Nyerere road, Dr Aggrey Euclid Road and President Avenue.
Mr. Kang’ombe said the traffic lights were meant to help pedestrian residents when crossing busy roads and also control traffic especially that the flow of traffic in Kitwe has increased.
"Apart from the council's project of installing traffic lights within the city at six points, AVIC International will put up traffic lights at other eight notable traffic lights under the ZTRP,'' Mr Kang'ombe said.
Last week, the Kitwe Mayor said the council was to spend more than K2 million in the installing traffic signals within the city on six points where it feelt that traffic load demanded intervention.
Mr Kang'ombe said Siltekk Engineering Limited had been contracted to do the project over a contract period of 12 weeks from the date of site handover.
