KAOMA RESIDENTS PROTEST DELAYS TO CONSTRUCT FRA OFFICE

- By MOSES SINJWALA

KAOMA residents have protested the delay in construction of the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) office block in the area.

Speaking on behalf of the residents Wakumelo Lifasi said construction of the office block had taken too long to complete despite the project starting on time.

He explained that with the continued delay, people in the area feared that their documents would not be properly filed which could lead to them losing out.

He complained that delayed construction project had not only affected FRA workers but farmers in the area.

Mr Lifasi further, bemoaned the current office space the workers were operating in.

And Best Finnish Construction Company Manager Michael Banda confirmed to the Daily Nation that works at the site had stalled due to lack of funding for the project with almost 80 percent of the works complete.

He said for close to one year his company has had to source funds elsewhere which has proved a challenge for them in completing the project on time.

He revealed efforts to get funding from FRA had provide futile “when we requested for fund to complete the project we were told the only money available was for famers and not the office blocks.”

Mr Banda wondered then how his company was going to complete the works without funding to complete the remaining works at the site.

He said the company had resorted to using other form of finances to help move the project but this as well was providing difficult.

However, Mr Lifasi called government move in so that the project can be complete like other FRA office in other Provinces.

Efforts to get a comment from FRA proved futile by press time but insiders indicated that there was no funding.
