Aspire for political positions, women told

WOMEN have been called upon to actively participat­e and take candidacy in the coming Kafue Council chairperso­n by-election.

Ms Mirriam Chitalu , who is among Patriotic Front female aspirants for the position, said there was need for women take advantage of such political openings, if the 50:50 gender parity goal on women participat­ion in influentia­l and decision making positions was be attained.

Ms Chitalu who disclosed her interests to the Daily

Nation to apply for adoption in the ruling party ahead of the by-election, said President Edgar Lungu had already set the ground by calling for more women participat­ion in decision making positions and that it was now time for women to respond.

She urged women in Kafue to rise up in numbers and take up candidacy in the by- election.

She said women should feel more encouraged to aim higher, as President Lungu had also proved his interest and efforts for women's participat­ion in decision making positions, through various appoints of women to various high positions.

“Recently, the President appointed three women into very high internatio­nal offices on the 20th of February 2019, Monde Gwaba - Senior Private Secretary, Office of the vice President, Martha Mwitumwa as Ambassador and Permanent Representa­tive to the United Nations in Geneva and Esther Nkandu as Ambassador to Belgium.
