MKUSHI MARKET SHODDY WORKS ANGER MARKETEERS

- By PETER MALASHA

A CONTRACTOR who worked on Mkushi’s Nkolonga market did an extremely shoddy job such that the roof leaks, pillars of the structure are falling apart and potholes are developing on the floor, marketeers complained yesterday.

The marketeers said their merchandise also got soaked whenever it rained because of poor workmanship by the contractor, adding that the market structure was not serving any purpose.

They called on government to come to their rescue and repair the market structure to correct the shoddy work done by the contractor.

They also complained that the place attended to soon,” Ms Mwape said.

But when reached for a comment, the councillor for Chalata Ward which also includes Nkolonga market, Mr Moses Manjimela, denied that the trading centre had no toilets.

Mr Manjimela said a toilet with running water was built at the market but the marketeers failed to pay K1 fee for using it.

Mr Manjimela said a market committee of which he was a member, had partnered with some commercial farmers to improve the welfare of the marketeers.

“We have partnered with some commercial farmers in the farm bloc to try and improve the welfare of marketeers so that they operate in conducive environment. We are looking into their plight,” Mr Manjimela said.
