Works on Ngabwe’s Lwamala clinic advance
CONSTRUCTION of a clinic at Lwamala in Ngabwe will end challenges pregnant women are enduring to cover distances of about 30 km mainly by a bicycle to the nearest clinic.
Ngabwe council chairman Thabiso Mizinga said in an interview yesterday that the construction of the clinic had advanced with only plastering and flooring had remained.
Ms Mizinga said the health post, being built using the
Constituency Development
Fund (CDF), was vital in quest to curb maternal and infant mortality in the area.
“We are constructing a clinic in Lwamala ward, what is remaining is plastering and putting a floor. The clinic is being built under
CDF,” Ms Mizinga said.
She said a staff house was also being built at the clinic.
Ms Mizinga said that staff for the clinic was already available and would be deployed to the health facility once its construction was completed.
Meanwhile, Ms Mizinga said she was saddened at the lack of a reliable bridge in the area.
She said the absence of bridge on Lwamala River was a challenge for people in the area.
Ms Mizinga said a rickety “bridge” made of logs put together and which was the only one available, was washed away by heavy rains.
Staff for the clinic was already available and would be deployed to the health facility once its construction was completed.
