Chongwe’s Chinkuli Ward cries for bridge

GOVERNMENT should expedite the constructi­on of Chinkuli Bridge on Nyanshishi River for people in Chinkuli Ward 8 to have easy access to the hospital nearest to them in Chongwe.

Chinkuli Village headman Kennedy Mapulanga said in an interview yesterday that the bridge leading to the nearest hospital had not yet been built and this posed a huge challenge for people in the areas.

Mr Mapulanga said the delay to build the bridge put the lives of the people at risk as they were forced to walk long distances to access health services.

“As you may know this village depends on farming and quick easy access to the road is of paramount importance for the famers to the market place in hongwe,” he said.

He said the farmers found it tedious to move their goods from Chinkuli to Chongwe market due bad roads especially during the rainy season, adding that in some instances the farmers lost their merchandis­e through thefts getting damaged.

He has called on government to expedite the completion of the remaining 8.5 km stretch of road from Kasisi to Kantende and the Chinkuli Bridge.

Mr Mapulanga further called on government to fulfil the promise to rehabilita­te a deep tank, stating that their animal were dying from diseases that could be cured if the deep tank was operationa­l.
