MPOMBO TICKS OFF DISHONEST LEADERS

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

THE constitutional review exercise was an important exercise that should not be impeded by political shenanigans and dishonesty says veteran politician George Mpombo. Dr Mpombo told the Daily

Nation in an interview that the opposition was being unreasonable by claiming that Government want å refine the constitution to bar some leaders from contesting in elections.

“It's wrong to jump to sick childish and asinine conclusions as the constitution is a sacred undertaking and not intended to fix individuals but to advance the cause of the nation,” he said.

Dr Mpombo said that the move to clean up deeply embedded lacunas should be

supported by stakeholders because this was fundamental to the country. He said there was no need to develop knee jerk reaction or imaginary anxiety because parlia ment was the right body to do the amendments of the constitution.

“The constitutional review exercise is an important exercise that should not be impeded by political shenanigans and skulduggery, the move to clean up deeply embedded lacuna should be supported. There is no need to develop knee - jerk reaction or imaginary coldly-wobbles, parliament is the right body to do the amendments,” Dr Mpombo said.

He advised stakeholders to engage government through ministry of Justice on their input in order to address the lacunas in the amended constitution.

“Let us not subvert the process by spreading falsehoods in order to doubt the integrity of the process,” Dr Mpombo said.
