600 GIRLS TO GET GOVT EDUCATION AID IN MWINILUNGA

600 girls are expected to benefit from the ‘Keeping Girls in School’ programme in Mwinilunga, acting District Commissioner Mwiya Tulani has said.
Mr Tulani said Government would sponsor 600 vulnerable school girls from grade nine to 12 in the area under the ‘Keeping Girls in School’ programme.
He said the girls would be drawn from all the six chiefdoms across the district.
The said the programme was being implemented through the department of Community Development under the Ministry of Community Development and Social Protection.
"We have a programme to do with the keeping of girl child in school.
And as district, about 600 school going girls are going to benefit from this programme," he said.
Mr Tulani stated that Government had prioritised education in its quest to end child marriages, hence implementing the programme.
He encouraged the girls who would be given an opportunity to be positive about life and take education seriously.
Mr Tulani said Government would be paying fees for the girls once they were placed on the programme.
He has since appealed to parents of girls who would be receiving this assistance from Government to encourage their children to take education seriously and desist from marrying them off at a tender age.
"We will make sure that we closely monitor the programme and ensure that the girls who will be sponsored are in school all the time,” he stressed.
