JOHN HOWARD RESIDENTS IN TREE PLANTING EXERCISE
WE have embarked on a tree planting exercise in response to the fight against the effects of climate change, says John Howard ward 3 councillor Kafula Mutale.
Mr Mutale expressed happiness to note that people in the area turned up in large numbers to support the project.
He said the tree planting exercise which took place last Saturday at John Howard Police Post included community members, the Ward Development Committee and their partners known as the Lusaka South Development Initiative (LSDI).
He said the LSDI comprised young people who had come together to make a difference in their communities during their free time by engaging in constructive activities such as the tree planting exercise.
In an interview, Mr Mutale said the significance of the activity was to combat the effects of climate change at whatever level and in any possible way.
“We planted trees at John Howard Police Post in response to Sustainable Development Goal number 13, which highlights climate change.
“It is also gratifying to note the keen interest the local community members showed during the exercise,” he said.
Mr Mutale said the activity was in line with Government policy of the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Health Campaign.
He expressed happiness that residents of John Howard took seriously Government’s policy whose aim was to see a clean and healthy community for all.
