YOUTH EMPOWERMENT BENEFITS SOCIETY - DC

- By NATION REPORTER

YOUTH empowerment can have far reaching positive benefits in society and investments in the youth should continue to enable them reach their full potential, Mkushi District Commissioner Luka Mwamba has said.

Speaking when he officiated at a youths training session jointly organised by Chengelo Training Farm and Mkushi Farmers Associa tion (MFA) held at Chengelo International School, Mr Mwamba urged the youths to continue to learn from others regarding the realm of business and careers.

"May l express my warm gratitude to Mkushi Farmers Association for inviting me to this forum which promises to be an event which will help to inspire our young men and women to take up agriculture as a career," Mr Mwamba said.

He said government had noted that Mkushi Farmers Association and Chengelo Training Farm through such events, showed that they were committed to promoting the development of youths.

He urged the youth to take the training opportunity with both hands and learn more from the event and encouraged them to use their innate and unique qualities for the benefit of society.

And Mkushi Farmers Association vice chairperson Amy Kingdom implored the youths to create linkages with people and entities who could help in the quest to develop their careers and lives.

Ms Kingdom reminded the youths that every farmer in the Mkushi Farm Bloc started very small.

She said most of the farmers arrived in the community with little, built huts to live in and started tilling the land.

But after 40years and 50years of hardwork and perseverance, the farmers that started little were now wealthy individuals with decent lives.

"As farmers it is our belief that agriculture is the future of our nation.

It is events such as this one which will inspire our young men and women to consider taking up farming as a business and a career.

I am confident we will see further events of this nature taking place in the future," Ms Kingdom said.
