- By SILUMESI MALUMO

E are working on measures to de elop inno ations that will help to generate funds for operations, ni ersity of ambia Professor uka umba has said.

Prof Mumba told Daily Nation yesterday that the institution wanted to stop dependency on government grant for its operations.

Prof Mumba said it was important for the institution to become innovative to address the challenges it was currently facing.

It is prudent that we start working on innovations that will help us to generate the much-needed income so that we can reduce dependence on government grants, he said.

He noted that the only way to arrest the challenges was to ensure that the institution become creative.

Prof Mumba said UNZA was a government institution which only looked onto the government grant for its operation but there was need to change this scenario. Prof Mumba’s remarks follow the decision by lecturers, researchers and workers to boycott work because of delayed salaries.

He said in wake of the situation the institution needed to have ways that would help the management to pay salaries on time to avoid disturbing the school calendar.
