BOOST AGRO SECTOR, GOVT URGED
GOVERNMENT should propel agriculture as it is the pinnacle for economic development, the Small Scale Farmer Development Agency (SAFADA) has said.
SAFADA Executive Director Boyd Moobwe said agriculture would provide panacea to Zambia’s economic status especially if small scale farmers were supported through various incentives.
Mr Moobwe said SAFADA had up-scaled its efforts towards assisting small-scale farmers by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with seven private companies from Czech Republic.
The MoU, he said, was aimed at supporting the small scale farmers in Zambia.
He said some of the initiatives agreed with the seven Czech companies was to support livestock farming, support towards agriculture inputs and credit facilities.
He said the project which was a build up to the ‘Zambia Grow’ an initiative which was aimed at supporting about 33 small-scale farmers in the country.
Mr Moobwe has called on the Ministry of Agriculture to support the initiative as it was aimed at improving the agriculture sector in Zambia.
He reiterated that agriculture was the driving force to the economic development.
