City market traders cry for waste bins

- By KALOBWE BWALYA

TRADERS at Lusaka City Market have appealed to the City Council waste management team to provide more waste bins to enable them have access where to dispose garbage.

Ms Susan Chanda, a trader observed that there was need for the local authority to put up more refuse bins in the market saying the only ones were not enough to cater for the huge population.

She observed that due to lack of adequate waste bins, some traders were disposing garbage in the nearby drainages and dormant mobile money transaction booths.

“Lusaka City market as well as Soweto are big trading places which caters for thousands of people , therefore it is important that there are enough waste bins,” said Ms Chanda.

Another trader Ms Carol Kungo said despite having running water in the market, council fee paying toilets were not thoroughly cleaned posing a serious health hazard.
