Road accidents on the rise in Mushindano

- By NATION REPORTER

MUSHINDANO District Commissioner Emmanuel Chihili has expressed concern over the increased number of Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) being experienced in the district.

His concern follows Wednesday’s accident which happened around 20:00 hours at Kangwena along the Solwezi Chingola road which claimed a life of a 42 year old man.

Ogesto Kiboko died on the spot after being hit by a speeding vehicle.

According to the DC, in less than a month, about three road accidents have occurred in which some lives have been claimed.

“We are concerned with the increasing number of road accidents that are happening in the district. In less than a month, we have recorded about three also the latest one being the one which happened on Wednesday,” he said.

Mr Chihili said most of the accidents have been occurrying along the Solwezi Chingola road, which lacked speed humps on highly-populated spots like Kangwena, Shafilundu, Kingovwa and St Dorothy areas.

He said there was need to quickly release the funds to Buildcom Investment the contractor working on Lot of the Solwezi Chingola, road to complete all the works and put speed humps.

His office, he said, was working together with traditional leadership, civic leaders, the church and Mushindamo Town Council to sensitise the communities on the ills of the high way.

“Let me also appeal to motorists to reduce speed on all busy public spots along the road,” he added.
