LCC WARNS DEFIANT SHOP OWNERS

- By KALOBWE BWALYA

owners who have defied the Lusaka City Council’s directive (LCC) to paint their buildings have themselves to blame if action is taken against them, Town Clerk Alex Mwansa has warned.

Mwansa said he was concerned that some shop owners, especially those in the central business district and Kamwala had failed to paint their shops as ordered by the LCC recently.

He said the council wanted all shops to be painted as a way to keep Lusaka clean and warned that those who had defied the order would face the consequences.

Mr Mwansa said reiterated that shops should be painted in light colours as opposed to the ones that would become an eyesore.

“LCC has observed that the multiple crazy colour paints used for decorating walls of most shops in the city are not quality and do not look neat and now that the city has undergone a face lift. It is important that shop owners do their part instead of giving excuses of street vendors,” said Mr Mwansa. He also advised shop owners to ensure their buildings had logos and other writings were done in smaller print. They should not cover the entire wall to promote uniformity and an aesthetic appeal pursuant in line with the Public Health Act.

Mr Mwansa said all shops should be painted as part of the efforts to keep the city clean in line with the current clean campaign.

Last year the local authority extended the deadline for shop owners in the CBD to paint their shops to February 28th, 2018 as the deadline initially elapsed on January 25th.
