MMD dares Mumba to prove new party claims
WE challenge Nevers Mumba to name the four cabinet ministers allegedly conspiring with Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) president, Felix Mutati, to form a new party, party national youth treasurer, Geoffrey Mulenga, has said.
Mr Mulenga said Dr Mumba had been reported to be making unsubstantiated claims that the MMD president, Felix Mutati, was planning to form a new political party. He said Dr Mumba was a clergyman who had a moral obligation to always tell the truth. In a statement issued yesterday, Mr Mulenga said when Mr Mutati lost elections to Dr Mumba in 2012, he did not quit the party to form another political organisation but instead still remained a loyal member until the subsequent convention where he was elected the legitimate president of the MMD. “We want to inform the MMD members, and the country at large, that the president and the leadership have no intentions of forming or registering a new political party,” he said. “The reason the president is visiting structures across the country is to fulfil the constitutional obligation of mobilising and energising the structures,” Mr Mulenga said. He urged the party membership across the country not to be shaken by the purported statements by Dr Mumba. Mr Mulenga said the party was in the safe hands of Mr Mutati, who was working hard to organize, energize and revive its fortunes, which had been lost due to the alleged poor leadership of Dr Mumba.
