Masala residents ‘cry’ for water behind schedule - MP

- By MUYANI SHINJABALE

RESIDENTS in Masala Township in Ndola say it is unfair for Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company (KWSC) to bury of all shallow wells in Kabushi constituency in Ndola.

The residents said it was unfair to bury the wells when many households in the area did not have running water. On Monday this week Ministry of Water sanitation and environmental protection Permanent Secretary Ed Chomba directed KWSC to bury all shallow wells in Ndola`s Masala Township as the area was connected to water pipes. However some residents revealed that they had no running water because Kabushi Member of Parliament Bawman Lusambo had not cleared the bills he had promised to do during the campaigns in 2016. A resident, Wada Phiri wondered where residents of Kabushi would be getting water after the shallow wells were buried. “The burying of shallow wells is not the best idea because many residents of Masala Township do not have running water,” he complained. Mr Phiri said the living conditions of the people in the area were poor and taking away their only water source would worsen the situation. Chisanga Bupe said in a separate interview that esidents should be given ample time before such an action could be taken. He said instead of burying wells, Government and KWSC should find a solution to the water challenges the people were facing.
