Late Mannaseh Phiri eulogised

THE late Doctor Mannaseh Phiri was a maestro of medical practice, a champion of health promotion and a great mentor whose works will always be missed and remembered, Health Minister Chitalu Chilufya has said. In his condolence­s message, Dr Chilufya told the Daily Nation that the medical fraternity in Zambia was grieved by the death of Dr Phiri. He recognised Dr Phiri’s efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS and cancer, stressing that he (Dr Phiri) would be greatly missed. “We have learnt with sadness the demise of Dr Manase Phiri. On behalf of the medical fraternity, I express deep condolence­s to the family of the late Dr Phiri. “Dr Phiri was a verified practition­er of medicine, a champion who fought HIV/AIDS in many different platforms. He was a health promoter, a teacher and a mentor and he pioneered many health promotions and many other medical journalism programs. He would be missed,” Dr Chilufya said. The Minister assured that the medical fraternity would carry on with Dr Phiri’s legacy. “We will continue his admirable legacy by strengthen­ing what he believed in, health education, empowering the people with informatio­n and ensuring that people live lives that protect them from both non communicab­le diseases and communicab­le diseases,” said the minister. “He was a great fighter against cancer, he pioneered many programs on prostate cancer. Today we say goodbye to a man who could be described as a maestro of medical practice, a champion of health promotion, a mentor, a teacher and a senior college. May his soul rest in peace,” he said. Dr Phiri who died yesterday, was an HIV/ AIDS activist, a prostate cancer campaigner and educator. He was cremated yesterday as per his wishes.
