‘PF has lived up to its promises’

- By MOSES SINJWALA

THE Patriotic Front has managed to fulfill most of its campaign promises ever since the party came into power, party’s deputy Media director Antonio Mwanza has said.

Mr Mwanza said the PF Government had delivered on its development campaign promises in a short period of time and evidence was there for people to see.

Speaking during a phone- in radio programme titled Add your voice on United Voice Radio on Wednesday, Mr Mwanza reiterated that the PF had continued to fulfill its campaign promises in terms of job creation and infrastructure development.

He cited the construction of roads, markets, schools and universities, among others, as some of the successes the PF had scored.

Mr Mwanza assured that more markets would be buil. He condemned beating of vendors by council police, saying the party had already voiced its concerns over the matter.

He advised local authorities to exercise restraint in the manner they handled vendors, saying council police should avoid treating them like criminals.

He said councils were there to deliver services to the people of Zambia and not harass or beat up vendors. Mr Mwanza dismissed reports that the party was losing popularity saying, the high number of defections from opposition parties to the PF as well as the scooping of seats from the opposition strongholds during by-elections proved that the party was growing stronger and stronger.

Mr Mwanza explained that the price of meal-meal was always a problem around this time of the year but assured that it would come down as the government had taken the necessary measures to address the problem.

On delayed university lecturers’ salaries, he said the institutions were grants and that managements of both should find ways of making their own money to supplement what government was giving them.

He also said the UPND was insincere and only thrived on using people from other regions for their own political expediency.

He said UPND did not appreciate anyone who was not from the Southern region but only wanted to use such people to attain their objective of getting their president into State House.

He said the defection of Mr Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba and the resultant insults and ill-treatment from the likes of Mr Patrick Mucheleka and Mr. Garry Nkombo had exposed their true colours on how they regarded others.

Mr Mwanza wondered how one party could have six vice presidents within a short period, saying this showed there was something wrong in the party. “There was no way that one party could have six vice presidents within 10 years then they must a very serious problem,” he said.

He said UPND would also want to court Mr Chishimba Kambwili for vice president but would dump him as well once they were done with him.
