Kind students win Chinese scholarships Good
THREE Zambian students have won a K17, 000 one-year scholarship each for providing first-aid and taking to hospital six Chinese and one Zambian involved in a road traffic accident in Lusaka's Makeni area.
Zambia-China Association (ZCA) vice president Luan Chunmin said the association would pay school fees for the Samaritans. Mr Luan said ZCA felt duty-bound to recognise and reward the three students with school fees for their actions. He said the association was meant to foster friendship and trust between Zambians and the Chinese. Melissa Tolopu, a Chreso University second-year clinical medicine student, said on April 28, 2019 she had gone to visit her friend at the Makeni School of Nursing and Health Sciences. When the incident happened she was present at the scene. Receiving the K17, 000 school fee payment Ms Tolopu said she was lost for words and thanked the association. Chreso University chancellor Helmut Reutter said the learning institution was humbled that one of its students was recognised for her good deed and discipline. “We are delighted with this gesture of recognising one of our students, and we hope to engage in more cooperation,” he said. Earlier, the association presented two cheques worth K11, 000 each to Makeni students who rescued the six Chinese and a Zambian after they were involved in a road crash. Mabvuto Mbewe and Ziyenzo Ndhlovu walked away with K11, 000 each for quickly booking a taxi on pay-forward terms and providing first-aid to the victims. One of the accident victims died while others are still recovering.
