Chinese firm to invest in coal power generation
A CHINESE company, Ningxia Taihual Holdings has expressed interest in investing in coal, electricity and chemical production in Southern Province.
A six member delegation led by its president, Yu Xuefeng is in the province to look at investment opportunities.
This came to light when the Chinese business delegation from the Coal and Chemical Processing sector paid a courtesy call on provincial minister, Edify Hamukale in Livingstone yesterday.
Mr Xuefeng informed Dr Hamukale that his company was interested in investing in coal electricity generation and chemical production.
He said that his entourage wanted to gather more information about the province and the country’s policies, taxes and other formalities.
Dr. Hamukale assured the delegation that the province was the only region in the country that had coal and was the nation’s number one in power generation.
Dr Hamukale said that with the province earmarked to host the Southern Province Exposition this September, it would give an opportunity to Mr Xuefeng’s company to visit the valley where coal was found and conduct feasibility studies.
He said that the provincial administration would make it easy for the company to begin mining activities.
“We will be happy if you came over during the Expo.
We can take you on the ground with experts so that you can do your feasibility studies. We will make it very easy for you to begin mining activities,” said Dr Hamukale.
Earlier, Southern Province Regional Mining Technologist, Dickson Banda told the delegation that coal which was found in the province was the first grade and that 25 percent of the province was covered by mining rights.
