Makandanyama residents win reprieve

- By KETRA KALUNGA

ABOUT 2, 000 residents of Makandanyama compound in Kabwe Central Constituency whose plots encroached on another person’s land, have been assured that their houses won’t be demolished.

The resident have been living in fear of their houses being demolished after it was established their houses were built on land belonging to Mr. Maxwell Chinsuka Musongole, a resident of Lusaka.

This was after the court ruled that Mr Musongole was the rightful owner.

But speaking during a meeting in Makanadanyama compound, Patriotic Front constituency chairman, Sam Lupupa, said President Edgar Lungu had through the provincial administration heard the cries of the people and would engage the owner of the land for an amicable solution.

Mr Lupupa said as a listening government, the PF would engage the local authority to legalise the area through the issuance of Land Records.

“No house would be demolished, President Edgar Lungu as a listening President, he has heard your cries through the provincial minister, permanent secretary, MP and the mayor,” said Mr Lupupa.

He said the land impasse in Makandanyama was one way in which the opposition was trying to weaken the party but that would not happen as the party in the district was equal to the task. Mr Lupupa has, however, warned against further allocation of plots in the area, saying anyone found wanting would be arrested.

One of the affected residents, Luka Chabala thanked the PF leadership through President Lungu for hearing their cries for help because they had been having sleepless nights over the matter.
