KK salutes Chiluba
“President Chiluba was a great man, a wise leader who always thought of what was best for his country,” - Dr Kaunda
FIRST republican President Kenneth Kaunda has extolled former head of state Frederick Chiluba.
Speaking to journalists during the sixth memorial service of the late President, Dr Kaunda described president Chiluba as a selfless leader who always sought the interest of Zambians before his own.
Dr Kaunda said President Chiluba’s contribution to the development of Zambia cannot be over emphasised.
He said President Chiluba strived to ensure Zambians became socially, politically and economically independent.
“President Chiluba was a great man, a wise leader who always thought of what was best for his country,” he said
Dr Kaunda said President Chiluba’s legacy was admirable by many.
He said Dr Chilub’s contribution to national development would forever be seen and appreciated by many.
And Bible Gospel Church in Africa BIGOCA overseer Peter Ndhlovu said the church would always hold President Chiluba’s legacy in high esteem.
Bishop Ndhlovu said the declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation by the former President had been the saving grace of the country.
He said Zambia had been saved from many calamities because of the declaration that was made in 1991 by president Chiluba.
“We as a church will forever be grateful to President Chiluba, his declaration of Zambia as a Christian nation has seen the country through worst times and we always emerge victorious,” he said.
Meanwhile, United Party for National Development secretary-general Stephen Katuka emphasised the need to celebrate all past leaders.
Mr Katula said Zambia was where it is today because of past leaders who sacrificed for a better Zambia.
And Senior Chief Mwata Kazembe’s political advisor and spokesperson Peter Richard Chanshi said the current crop of politicians had a lot to learn from President Chiluba’s legacy.
Mr. Chanshi said President Chiluba was a fearless person who stood for what he believed and who was always ready to learn and listen from people.
And President Chiluba’s last born daughter Verocia Chiluba described her father as a jovial and principled parent.
Ms Chiluba said despite his absence the values and morals he instilled in his children had always helped them.
