Community school gets machine, cement
DEVINE Community Primary School in Wusakile Township in Kitwe has received a block-making machine and 30 pockets of cement from Liquid Telecom Zambia.
The community school depends on donations from well-wishers to deliver education to learners.
Liquid Telecom Zambia head of sales and marketing Bernadette Moffya said the block making machine was an empowerment initiative that would help the school raise resources and sustain its operations.
Speaking during a handover ceremony at the school Ms Moffya said the machine would help the school raise money for building the classrooms as well as generate revenue for future projects.
She said education was one of the cornerstones of the company’s corporate social
responsibility and strategic focus.
Ms Moffya acknowledged that schools like Devine Community School greatly helped children with the opportunity to be shaped into individuals who would drive ambia’s development
agenda.
She said Liquid Telecom valued the spirit of innovation, hard work and focus on development, which was only possible if education was prioritised.
Devine Community School head teacher Joseph Bwalya thanked Liquid Telcom Zambia for its swift and positive response to its request for support.
Mr Bwalya said the school had contacted the company to help it build a classroom block for the learners.
He said last year the school experienced torrential rains which blew away the roof of a classroom block.
Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu said infrastructure was important but was lacking at many public and private schools.
Mr Mpundu said there was a need for other institutions, both public and private, to partner with Government in accelerating development.
