Teacher in rape case
Editor It is shocking that now even teachers are being accused of raping students. Where is this world getting to? Pupils are left in the care of teachers. For a teacher to do such a thing is beyond belief. How can a teacher abuse a pupil whom he is entrusted to educate? I hope that the law can be applied fully to ensure that such people are jailed. Let us make examples of such teachers to ensure the safety of our children. I also think that these teachers need counselling. Especially those who are teaching female pupils. – Bwembya.
Zambian contractors deserve more work
Editor, I do not understand why people think that Zambian contractors should only do small jobs. Why please? We have engineers who deserve better treatment. Give them big contracts and let’s see what they can do. It is not all contractors who do shoddy works. Even among foreign contractors, some do very bad work. So stop maligning local contractors. Let’s treat one another with respect. Local contractors understand local culture and even as they execute their work, they would take this into consideration. I say let’s give more than 20 percent construction works to local contractors. They deserve better treatment. - John Musenge.
Well done First Lady
Editor, I want to commend the First Lady, Madam Esther Lungu for all the good work that she is doing in helping the vulnerable in society. The orphans, disabled and disadvantaged are all benefitting from the irst ady s foundation. This is commendable and I say, job well done and continue with this work. God will reward you. Do not stop. - Monica Mulenga.
Men dominating everywhere is worrying
I would like to express my worry on the high number of men dominating almost all the national, regional and even constituency positions of the various political parties in the country, except women's organisations. If we want sustainable development in society, we must bring women on board. The society must also be educated on the need to get the women involved in the decision-making process, and fully involved in politics. - Adaeze Zulu, Lusaka.
Emulate Katuba residents
Editor The peace and non-violence that was witnessed during the campaigns for the Katuba by-election should be commended and emulated by all. That is what we want to see during any election in Zambia. We believe in one Zambia, one Nation so there is no need for us to fight or kill each other because of political differences. Elections come and go, and we will always have different ideologies but that does not mean that we become enemies. Let’s understand that candidates from different political parties in an election fight for one thing, to serve the citizenry. So why should that lead to bloodshed, especially that leadership comes from God? The manner in which the Katuba electorates conducted themselves and all political parties that participated in the by-election deserves a hand of applause. Keep it up! - Mike Bwembya, Lusaka.
