PROTECTING SCHOOL LAND

-

Editor,

MAY I through your widely read paper advise our leaders in Kitwe to work in harmony.

I have in mind, Honourable Kalobo and Kitwe District Commissioner, Binwell Mpundu to work in harmony to ehance development of the town. This bickering is not good at all. I think everyone should just learn to stay in their learn. More especially ba DC should refrain from labelling others in his utterances. The jerabos he is disparaging are king makers on the Copperbelt. They support families through their small scale mining activities. There is no need for the DC to start disparaging their activities. Not everyone can be minister or indeed have a white collar job. Some of us have to clean up after others. That does not make us any less human or perfect.

It is just a job and someone has to do it. If the country had no cleaners or jerabos, how would some people survive? Life is full of inter-dependence. No man is an island. We all rely on each other for survival. It may not be a perfect job in your eyes but it puts food on my table. My children will not go hungry because I am not afraid to brave the heat and forage in a disused mountain. It is life and instead of crying, I choose to be positive and do my best.

So do not talk about jerabos in the manner you did. Lets just respect each other’s offices. We respect yours because we know you need it and deserve it. We want you our leaders to work together and with us not against us. We belong to the same group and we all want development at personal and national level.

I will personally be happy to receive you and show you that we are not useless people as some might think. Zambia is ours all of us. Each one of us must therefore make an effort in their own way to make our country great. This must start at personal level.

- Bwalya Mpundu, Kitwe
