State to support traditional ceremonies
GOVERNMENT says it will continue supporting traditional ceremonies because they have the potential to promote cultural tourism.
North Western Province deputy permanent secretary Douglas Ngimbu said the ceremonies also provided opportunities for the government and other stakeholders to explain programmes and activities aimed at bringing development to the people.

Mr Ngimbu said the Patriotic Front, under the leadership of President Edgar Lungu, attached a lot of importance to traditional ceremonies because they provided an excellent opportunity for reflection which reminded Zambians that they were part of the history that defined who they were.
He was speaking during the Lubinda traditional ceremony of the Kaonde people of Chief Mumena in Kalumbila district.
Mr Ngimbu said traditional ceremonies such as the Lubinda should be protected and appreciated by all Zambians because they remained an integral part of Zambia’s rich cultural heritage which needed to be preserved for the good of the future generations.
“This is because traditional ceremonies presented an opportunity of passing on of cultural values, norms and customs to future generations especially to our children and the youths for them to fully participate in the cultural heritage of our country,’’ he said.
Mr Ngimbu also encourage people in the province to actively seize the opportunity to improve their livelihoods and that of their future generation by taking part in the expo.
“This important event is one way through which we can attract investors to partner with us and develop our province,” he said.
