KALOBO SEEKS PARENTS’ SUPPORT
WUSAKILE Member of Parliament Pavyuma Kalobo has urged parents and other stakeholders to support Government's policy of upgrading primary schools into secondary schools because it will help meet the increasing demand for secondary education.
Mr Kalobo, however, said there was need to be careful in the upgrading process to avoid turning all primary schools into secondary schools leaving the lower grades with no school places.
In an interview after attending the ‘Meet the DEBS’ function hosted to raise money for four classrooms, Mr Kalobo said he was impressed that in the process of upgrading Twashuka, the school authorities had maintained the lower grades from one to seven.
"As we upgrade these primary schools, we should be careful not to get rid of lower grades from grade one to seven. We should maintain these lower grades. So I am happy that Twashuka is a combined school which caters for grades one to seven and also secondary schools.
"So, if we complete this one by four classroom block, we will be able to effectively cater for secondary school classes from grades eight to 12. So I am urging the parents and other stakeholders to support Government's policy of upgrading primary schools into secondary schools,'' Mr Kalobo said.
He urged school authorities in the constituency to come up with various initiatives that would help the operations of the school for it to provide quality education.
Mr Kalobo said as MP, he would always support progressive ideas and initiatives aimed at improving the performance of the school.
He said he would always support the education sector in the constituency because it was one of the sectors he had promised to support during his campaigns.
"As area MP, I will always support the education sector in my constituency because education is key for any development to take place. Right now, I have the programme of donating computers in the constituency.
"So, let us continue working together and see how we can improve the performance of our schools. For me, I will always support ideas and initiatives that aim at improving the performance of the schools,'' he said.
Twashuka Combined School deputy head teacher Beauty Libati said the school had decided to hold the function to raise money for the one by four classroom block as the school was planning to expand and accommodate secondary classes.
Ms Libati said the school was grateful that the MP had always been supportive to its carious initiatives aimed at improving its performance.
"As a school, we are happy and grateful to the DEBS, Mwape Chishimba Nkosha, and the MP for supporting us to this fund raising braii. This fund raising braii is very important because it is aimed at expanding our school,'' Ms Libati said.
