Support ECZ exercise - Kasempa council
STAKEHOLDERS are encouraged to support the ongoing Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) 2019 delimitation sittings by fully participate in the exercise as it is for their benefit, says Kasempa Town Council secretary Tryson Chunga.
Mr Chunga said participating in the exercise would promote effective representation of citizens as outline under the theme ‘Not Leaving Anyone Behind Promoting Your Right to Vote through Delimitation’.
He said the exercise was important because it would ease accessibility of electoral services to voters.
This is according to a statement issued by Kapempa Council public relations officer Mukosela Kasalwe.
Government wanted to ensure citizens walked a reasonable distance to effectively and efficiently exercise their right to vote.
Mr Chunga said through the delimitation process, constituencies should among other things be aligned within districts and ensure polling stations were

within five kilometres reach for the electorate.
He was speaking during the opening of the ECZ 2019 delimitation district sittings in Kasempa yesterday.
Mr Chunga said the process would be peopledriven and that no decision would be imposed on them.
Both written and oral submissions were welcome.
Mr Chunga said Article 58 of the republican Constitution and Section 21 of the Electoral Process Act No. 35 of 2016 mandated ECZ to delimit
constituencies, wards and polling districts at the National Assembly and council levels.
The event attracted people from all walks of life such as councillors, government officials, political parties, traditional leaders, non-governmental organisations and clergymen from various church denominations.
Delimitation is the process of demarcating electoral boundaries of constituencies, wards and polling districts for the purpose of conducting elections.
