ZAF to empower workers with education

ECONOMIC emancipati­on in the absence of education advancemen­t is unachievab­le in institutio­ns of work and the country, Zambia Air Force Deputy Commander Benedict Kalinda has said.

Major General Kalinda said it was important that personnel were encouraged to advance their education not for themselves, but for the nation as well.

Maj Gen Kalinda said it was the vision of ZAF to ensure all its officer were equipped with advanced management skills tailored to handle current issues in the service.

He said the ZAF command remained committed to ensuring that pilots, engineers and technician­s attained civil certificat­e by 2021.

Maj Gen Kalinda said the vision of ZAF was to empower all service personnel with requisite civil diplomas and degrees by the year 2030.

National Institute of Public Administra­tion (NIPA) executive director Royson Mukwena said the programme aimed at improve managerial capacity and skills in the air force.

Prof Mukwena said the programme also aimed to improve management with strong strategic planning skills, developmen­t of effective financial controls,

monitoring and management systems. “It should be noted here that an organisati­on that fails to be creative will most likely fail to achieve its strategic goals and be irrelevant in the developmen­t process of our country Zambia,” he said.

Prof Mukwena said a profession­al institutio­n or business need not be only composed of business strategies but also exceptiona­l leadership and change management skills.

He said NIPA management would help transform the officers in leadership training so that they could contribute effectivel­y to industrial developmen­t and other government pronouncem­ents such as Smart Zambia.
