Poor receive relief food, grateful

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

VULNERABLE people who have benefited from relief mealie meal under the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) in Mwinilunga district have thanked Government for the aid.

Jessy Chinyembu, 70, who spoke on behalf of several other beneficiaries, was grateful to Government saying the help would alleviate hunger.

Mrs Chinyembu urged Government to continue with the same programmes of helping the needy.

"On behalf of other beneficiaries, I would like to thank the government for the aid. This is commendable and let the help be extended to other beneficiaries," she said.

Mrs Chinyembu was speaking in an interview shortly after receiving the mealie meal when acting district commissioner Mwiya Thulani witnessed the distribution at Pentecostal Holiness and Christian Brethren churches yesterday.

Pentecostal Holiness pastor Kenneth Nkanza also praised Government for the gesture and assured that the mealie meal would go to the intended beneficiaries.

Mr Thulani was happy that vulnerable people in the district had accepted the aid from Government with gratitude.

He urged people in the area to embrace and safeguard government development programmes being implemented aimed improving people's lives.

Mr Thulani said President Edgar Lungu remained committed to taking development to all parts of the country.

People should support his efforts and not frustrate him through sabotage.
