Bushiri denies badmouthing Lungu

THE Zambian government is one among the few in the world making efforts to protect the rights of the Christian community with vigour and dedication, Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has said.

Prophet Bushiri was reacting to reportsh he had made disparaging remarks about President Edgar Lungu, his government and people of Zambia.

In a statement Prophet Bushiri said he admired the leadership in the country and firmly believed the Zambian government was among the few in the world making a mark in protecting the rights of the Christian communities. He said as a religious leader, he was praying for President Lungu every day and his government whom he firmly believed was sincere and wished nothing but the best for the

“great, hardworking and Godfearing people of Zambia”.

“The Bible is clear about the role of leadership and that leaders are chosen by God, to lead God’s people. I do not support the disparaging of leaders but instead believe that the church has a role of praying for the leadership and supporting them as they quest to create a better tomorrow for the amazing people of Zambia,” said Prophet

Meanwhile, Prophet Bushiri has refuted reports attributed to him that the Zambian national team, affectionately known as

Chipolopolo, would not qualify for the next Africa Cup of

Nations soccer tournament

“Please be advised and be informed that these reports are wholly false. I am an avid soccer fan of Liverpool FC in the English Premiership and have a soft spot for all African national teams and clubs, more so, much Zambia,” he said.

He said his admiration for Chipolopolo stems back from the early 1990’s where he avidly supported Kalusha Bwalya and the golden boys who won the hearts not just for the continent but across the world.

Prophet Bushiri said he had several pictorial collections in his house of Bwalya the golden boys.

“Those who have watched football with me and discussed it can testify that I admired the fast fluent attacking football played by the Zambian team.
