DISBAND ACC FOR INCOMPETENCE - NCP

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) should be disbanded for incompetence because it has failed to fight corruption in the country, New Congress Party (NCP) president Peter Chanda has said.

Pastor Chanda said the failure to find the rightful owner of the 48 housing units in Lusaka’s Chalala area showed that the people entrusted to fight corruption were incompetent.

He also said the ACC had also failed to produce evidence in the case where Minister of Tourism Ronald Chitotela was accused of corruption.

Pastor Chanda said it would be prudent to remove the entire investigative team and replace it with competent people who could help government to fight corruption.

“We want to say that it is a shame and gross incompetence at its highest level. For this reason I am calling for the immediate removal of the chief investigations officer at the AntiCorruption Commission for misleading his superiors.

He said President Edgar Lungu had demonstrated leadership in the fight against corruption and therefore needed competent people to help him fight the vice.

He said the ACC should also stop alarming the nation on alleged corruption when it did not have sufficient evidence.

And Pastor Chanda condemned United Party for National Development (UPND) Mazabuka Central Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo for presenting forged documents before Parliament.

He said this showed that UPND lacked genuine leadership.
