Livingstone council unveils service charter
THE Livingstone City Council (LCC) has developed and launched a Service Charter and Code of Ethics aimed at enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors of the city by providing better services.
The two documents which were launched yesterday, Friday, by Deputy Mayor John Lilema have been developed in consultation with members of staff and various stakeholders in the city.
Speaking during the launch, Mr Lilema said the code of ethics would exist not only to help the council set standards to govern it’s performance and empower the public to demand such standards as a right but, also to provide a clear guidance which councillors and employees of Livingstone City Council must uphold.
He said that this was in order to ensure an ethical work environment for excellent service delivery to the public which will be highly endorsed through the code of ethics.
“The Service Charter and Code of Ethics are documents that they Livingstone City Council wishes to use in order to warrant the provision of essential information that citizens need to know about the service or function that the local authority provides and the manner in which these services are accessed, whilst enhancing ethical conduct and professionalism amongst councillors and employees of Livingstone City Council,” said Mr Lilema.
The deputy mayor was hopeful that with such documents in place, officers would be accountable for the various responsibilities that they have been entrusted with.
“My appealed is that you should provide efficient, effective, reliable, equitable and sustainable service to the residents and tourist population of the City of Livingstone,” said Mr Lilema.
And Southern Province Local Government Officer (PLGO) Amusa Zaza has called all the local authorities in the province to emulate Livingstone City Council.
He said the two documents were important for any local authority’s performance and called on all councils in the province to emulate Livingstone City Council.
