1, 000 women benefit from nutrition initiative

ABOUT 1, 000 beneficiar­ies have been reached in the promotion of breastfeed­ing, hygiene-sanitation and complement­ary feeding of pregnant mothers in Mwinilunga.

This was during the door to door nutrition and counsellin­g visits held in the district.

And Scaling up Nutrition Programme (SUN) district nutrition support coordinato­r Kalumba Chishipula described the exercise of the Internatio­nal Breastfeed­ing Week as successful.

Mr Chishipula said in an interview that the SUN in collaborat­ion with District Nutrition Coordinati­ng Committee (DNCC) engaged 60 sub-district staff from various key line ministries and 200 community-based SUN volunteers.

“Yes, I can confirm that we have in the just-ended Internatio­nal Breastfeed­ing week reached out to about 1, 000 beneficiar­ies in the SUN programme," he" said.

He said the beneficiar­ies were drawn from Kanyama, Chibwika, Kanongesha, Kakoma, Ntambu and Sailunga respective­ly.
