KABWE COUNCILLOR REJECTED

- By KETRA KALUNGA

RESIDENTS of Nakoli ward in Kabwe have rejected their councillor, Charles Chityaka whom they accused of being difficult and not ready to work with the community.

But Mr Chityaka in an interview denied the allegations and attributed the hostility towards him to hunger which he said has hit the area.

This came to light when Kabwe Central Member of Parliament, Tutwa Ngulube held a developmental meeting in the area last Wednesday last week which the area councillor missed.

A resident, Mr Remmy Shula said he on many occasions engaged the councillor on the need to work on all the roads in the ward which were in a bad state to improve service delivery in the area.

Mr Shula explained that he has differed with the councillor every time the issue of the bad state of roads in the ward was raised.

Another resident, Mr Moses Mvula called on Mr Ngulube to engage the councillor and the community on the matter so that they could work together for the sake of development.

He said if the matter was not resolved, the ward would lag behind in terms of development because a councillor was a representative of the community. But the councillor, Mr Chityaka attributed the purported differences between him and the community to hunger which he said has hit Nakoli community.

Mr Chityaka said poverty has pushed the mindset of people to the extreme to an extent that they fail to recognise the works of the councillor.

“Just two weeks ago, I had a meeting with the community on the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects that have been approved in the area. So, it’s not true that have abandoned them. They are just hungry because there is hunger in the ward,” said Mr Chityaka.

And Mr Ngulube has instructed the ward and branch executives to work together and resolve differences with the councillor so that the ward could be developed.

“We need to find a solution to this problem. Since 2016 up to date, the pulling between the councillor and community has not ended.

I am very worried because if we are not in good terms, then the chain between myself and the community is broken,” said Mr Ngulube.

We need to find a solution to this problem. Since 2016 up to date, the pulling between the councillor and community has not ended. — Mr Ngulube.
